Actually, there's another aspect that is very relevant. The fact that someone's party manifesto is 2000 years old, or 1400 years old........and even the excuse 'nobody follows that part of the manifesto any more'.....should not be accepted as a valid excuse if the person is not prepared to physically score out parts of the manifesto no longer followed. If the entire manifesto is held to be 'sacred', then it is utterly disingenuous to pretend the totality is not one's viewpoint.
