It would be perhaps wrong to call Hitch a 'hero' (he would've disliked the term), he was most certainly and inspiration.
Much has been made of Hitch's 'departure' from the Left. Personally, I disagree: the Left betrayed itself and took a soft line on tyranny. In its obituary, the Guardian wrote "His loathing of tyranny was consistent". I could not think of anything more correct.
He will be missed.
