A staple of science fiction is ubiquitous DNA scanning; for medical treatment customization of course, but also for personal identification. This seems to be a step in that direction, and of course any new technology will spin off social changes we have yet to imagine.

I suspect that the changes wrought by nearly 100% sure identification may overwhelm the medical impacts... Not only would credit card fraud be nearly impossible, but as corollary to the data collection effort, no person would be invisible to the authorities, paternity would be impossible hide, and so on.

Very interesting. Lots of possible societies to imagine.
