My mother is currently having large swathes of her genome sequenced in a Cambridge study, in an attempt to identify the causes of lipedema. She's been told that there will not be a cure in her lifetime, but that the study may identify one in the future.

... Welcome to Gattaca everyone, its where we will end up.When your genome stops you getting life insurance, or makes your car insurance suddenly quadruple,because i can bet that application hits the shelf before any medical ones are cleared through testing.

I'm sure you're absolutely right - but complaining about insurance costs is a luxury afforded by your not dying of whatever disease causes the price rise.
