To sum up his description of the political influence of medicine in modern societies imbued by faith in science, he declared:

Since theocracy is the rule of God or its priests, and democracy the rule of the people or of the majority, pharmacracy is therefore the rule of medicine or of doctors.

Thomas Szasz does appear to be out there a tad to far off the mainstream.

He does have a point when he makes the following remark though...

Szasz wrote: "If you talk to God, you are praying; If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia. If the dead talk to you, you are a spiritualist; If you talk to the dead, you are a schizophrenic."

This double standard has always bamboozled me. Peter Sutecliffe is locked away in an institution for life because he heard God, Bible heroes are exalted because they heard God. Of course US presidents and Popes also get a bye ball when they hear God too.
