The existence of the potential for strong offence to be taken might perhaps be considered of as an emotional allergy, an unhealthy over-reaction to an otherwise harmless substance.
One way to treat allergy is by de-sensitisation. Offence is healthy, and, indeed, necessary to maintain health.
