Unfortunately, no surprises here. Religion and politics have always been willing and eager bedfellows. By promoting religious refocusing on the hereafter, politicians get help in plundering the present. Conversely, by pandering to the political rape and pillage, religions get awarded laws and conventions that institutionalize their special treatment.
How can we break this mutually self-serving linkage?
