It would be properly dishonest of them if they used these baptism figures (where back out is not an option) as a way of proving their numbers. I can just imagine them pressing for policies and so forth on the grounds that there are many baptized and THEREFORE Catholic citizens. There is no reason for the church to be fighting these court cases except, and I suspect this is the real reason, so that they can retain this strategy of falsely representing their strength in numbers.
