(apologies for not getting US terms correct)How tough is it to be a simple fiscal conservative in the US when your rest of the party likes the company of  crazies, gay and women haters! I know exactly how you feel Alaskansee, and I'm not even American. The tragic truth is that the Republican party has warped into the Christian party, so everything is clouded by religion. Christians can't help themselves from sticking their moral beaks into everyone else's business. I guess Ron Paul is your only hope. (yes I know he is a Christian too, but he absolutely will not let his religious beliefs influence his policy).
