← Religious freedom and religious privilege

I know there should, within reason, be freedom of conscience. But I despair when I see freedom of stupidity. There is absolutely no coherent reason for anyone to be against contraception.

How do these churches get to a position where such stupidity is tolerated in any way? Would other kinds of stupidity be tolerated. Could an individual insist that they be allowed to refuse to serve any products coloured purple on Thursday afternoons because it's against their god's commandment? I doubt it. Stupidity only has power when it is collective.

This is my objection to secularism - it privileges organised stupidity. Because of that, secularism is fundamentally unfair - it does not allow for privilege to be given to individual stupidity. Secularism may be necessary, but I don't like it.
