Intimidation doesn't necessarily have to be physical in order to be effective. The smear campaign we have seen against Dawkins may not intimidate the good professor himself, but it sends out a clear message to anyone else who might consider speaking out against religious privileges in the future: This is what you can expect if you don’t shut up. On the other hand allowing ourselves to be bullied into silence is to show that smear tactics work, so my response has been to attack religion with everything I have (little as that may be).
