Yeah, I get it --- no personal attacks against a person; it's a logical fallacy. I don't see how expressing Dawkins' credentials as a scientist helps in bolstering his authority in secularism, though; it's like the same fallacy in reverse. Don't get me wrong... it's still a nice thing to say in his defense.
I think ad hominem persists because it's effective, and it only works as long as people still don't realize that it's foolish and irrational. Preach the good word about reasonable discourse, Mr. Rajan, and so will we.
