I wonder how many of the commenters on the New Statesman website even realised that this is not the article itself (all 2000 words of it are about to appear in the magazine). It seems that it only takes my NAME to unleash the bile and vitriol. What my article actually says makes no difference at all – as usual. As usual, except that the level of bare knuckle – white knuckle – hatred has been racked up several notches since we published our Ipsos MORI poll last week. This has got to be an encouraging sign, however disagreeable the hatred might be. They seem really rattled now, and with good reason.
