Reading some of the comments on the New Statesman page makes me want to tear my hair out.
It's amazing how many people still get their knickers in a twist (that's a phrase you don't hear often these days) over the semantics of this topic: whether or not "atheism" is a religion, or that it's "irrational to be an atheist; agnosticism is the only sensible view", and so on.
I think, like the claim that atheists are "intolerant, militant, etc" it's just another attempt to distract from the main arguments.
