Attack of the Theocrats!
My question: why do songs I don't like get stuck in there? Last week I had 'Longer' by Dan Folgelberg stuck in my head for days. Oh the pain.
Also, in the music industry they talk about songs with 'hooks'. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was found that pop music is more likely to become an 'earworm' since the song was likely a hit in the first place because it had these 'hooks'.
In other words, it seams to me to be more likely that Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" will become an earworm then Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony. Because the former song is so catchy is the reason it was 'selected' to be a hit in the first place.
