← Earworms: Why songs get stuck in our heads

The strangest experience that I had was when around 2005 I suddenly began to be plagued by the dreadfully cheesy "Play me like you play your guitar" by Duane Eddy and some girl group. I remember the song from some time in the seventies, it made little impression at the time, and then suddenly, it popped into my head and continued to do so for several weeks. Then it disappeared just as suddenly and I haven't thought about it since. I am presently trying not to think of the tune in case it happens again.
