Alan4, you didn't get what I meant. I didn't mean the time the voyage took doesn't matter for our research. I meant it wouldn't matter to the traders, as long as there was a continuous succession of ships. The ships didn't exist and sail to give us evidence! They sailed to convey goods and passengers (and mail).

aroundtown - why use the word "greed", If no successful trade existed we'd all still be in the stone age. Once money has been invented, if a business doesn't make SOME profit it collapses, as we've seen so often recently.
