I like TIntern's (no. 16) idea: The spiritual fitness test should be that each trainee has to stand while a living, fizzing grenade is thrown at his/her feet. Trainees who are professedly spiritual pass the test if he/she falls on the grenade and it fails to explode because an angel cups his loving hands around it to save the trainee. Trainees who get blown up are obviously faux-spiritual. Trainees who are avowedly atheists pass the test if they leap into a nearby foxhole and avoid the risk of explosion. They are then automatically sent to officers school. :)
