The word "leader" is not helpful. If we are freethinkers and democratic, then we elect representatives, we don't have leaders. Richard Dawkins is an advocate and representative for reason and science, not so much for a people or ideology.
Also, is it a New Atheist movement? I think there are various groups, whether humanists, academics, atheists, sceptics and so on, who are slowly uniting together as a kind of movement of reason, attempting to raise the conscious of those who are not aware of the destructive elements of irrationality and religion.
