What reason do we have to be so forgiving? Him being a comedian does not excuse him for perpetuating nonsense (particularly in this case, where he was being perfectly genuine). Less persuasive is the idea that he should be given a pass because his social, economic, and political sensibilities are more or less agreeable. I don't care about his previous work in this context; I care about his gross misrepresentation of science.
I still, however, find The Daily Show wildly entertaining. Here is a somewhat redeeming segment from October.
