Attack of the Theocrats!
I maintain that EBM is a cause of widespread human suffering. Modern medicine is ruled by the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical companies only sponsor expensive clinical trials for things that they can patent and make money from. 'Valid' research? I think not. In the case of a safe, inexpensive, generic drug like Low Dose Naltrexone, the patent has expired so there is no money to be made in conducting clinical trials. Yet there is overwhelming evidence from patients - and prescribers - that it is of great benefit in MS and other chronic conditions.
Disease does not wait for evidence. And it certainly doesn't wait for EBM.
Thank goodness for doctors who apply clinical judgement based on science and the experience of treating thousands of people. When the patient gets well - there is the evidence.
Those who have been at the pointy end of EBM know how painful it is. It is sheer misery to be left to stew in a chronic illness for years on end. In my case, it was science that saved me - not EBM.
