This could happen in the US regardless of the many Supreme Court interpretations of the First Amendment. The fundies are pushing this because they know this is their last gasp. The fundies will resort to the sword to impose their delusions and I fear many is the secular and rational community would roll over instead of fighting for their rights and the preservation of the Constitution.
