In response to some of the crass comments above regarding Irish peoples attitude towards the sexual abuse of children, it should be noted first that clerical sexual abuse scandals have been identified in the US, UK, Canada, France and Germany among other countries, but nowhere has the backlash against the Catholic Church been so severe as that in Ireland. The long-standing domination by and support for this institution has essentially collapsed, and it was the Irish government which set a precedent by being the first government to officially attack the Vatican for it's role in these horrific scandals. The extent of the Irish reaction has been fueled primarily by the fact that it is our most precious and vulnerable who were molested under the power and protection of the Church.

So prior to making ignorant unfounded comments about Irish attitudes on this matter, try gathering the facts and demonstrating some semblance of knowing what the hell you're talking about!
