Frankly, end of the world hyperbole sells. Ask Harold Camping how much he made out of it not so long ago.
The point is, there is already a large target audience for this kind of conspiracy nonsense - the Hale-Bopp 'spaceship' lot, the Nostrodamus lot, moon landings, etc. etc... They will always be convinced of their delusions and will always be ready to part with their cash....Now, I wonder how many 'I survived Dec 2012' t-shirts I could shift, hmmmm?
