Well that still raises the question then(imo): Why not just call it an american( as in United States of America ) cultural thing then?

As far as i know there are no jewish states in america, and as long as jewish is also used as a religious term, it only serves to distinguish ( some might even say elevate ) american jews from the rest of the "flock" aka other american "races".

I guess USA still have some identity problems as a country, if these questions are considered as "banging your head on the table over it". :-)
