This guy has been a hero of mine for years. His work is very important.

I recommend looking up his organization as well. It started as an Englishman's personal library and a small study group, and it now quite large.
The was a rationalist movement in India a few thousand years ago which denied the possibility of creator gods, the only surviving elements I know of are Buddhism (Gautama was a student of this school) and Indian logic. Muslims sacked the Buddhist university with all their original works, an academic loss comparable to the Christian destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria. Dark ages of mystical thinking ensued, though the Abrahamic view of India has been most uncharitable, calling them all "Hindus" whatever that means.
