Attack of the Theocrats!
I was looking into these things and found Eidetic memory after closely comparing how my memory works and the mechanism of memory. The conclusion seems to be that it is not so strange or special. It is only recalling sensory information.
It could be that using all the senses to store a memory helps in it's memorability. Smell and sound too. It is well known that smell triggers memories.
So maybe everyone has a photographic memory but are good at discarding things like what they wore 30 years ago and what they said and how they smelled.
Understanding the mechanism of this kind of hyper memory could help in censoring some of it out.
