In a world where even specialist need to have some transferable skills, in case the area of specialization suddenly becomes obsolete, the theologian seems to be one of the least prepared for life outside his or her expertize (I use this word very loosely).

Pampered by the trappings of the church, respected by a community of followers, idolized by friends, family and most of society, an authority with the sanction of the Almighty, suddenly losing all of that must feel like having the rug pulled from under you just as a bucket full of cold water is dumped on to your naked body from up on high -- with many of your former followers looking on with contempt for you. Only, it's probably much, much worse than that.

I feel for these people and wish them the best in their new futures.
