They don't understand economics. That much is obvious by looking at the state of the world, particularly economies in the west.
Worse, most public officials don't understand exponential growth any more than the average Joe or Josie on the street. When asked what a good, sustainable annual growth rate of population for Las Vegas, NV would be over 100 years, these idiots on the city council gave answers ranging from 6% to 12%!
Morons.
