← Why is evolution more accepted in Mexico than in the USA?

As a former Catholic, when I was a child evolution was accepted and taught in schools that are in predominantly Catholic neighborhoods with little or no issues with the parents or community. Genesis was a nice little story of sorts. In other fundamental religions that are predominant in the US's southern states, the Bible is taken literally - so Genesis must also be taken literally and evolution must be rejected.
