Attack of the Theocrats!
Of course we should remember that the RCC only accepts evolution in a very limited way, i.e. guided by God, which amounts to not accepting evolution at all! That's why Darwin's idea was so "dangerous", as Dan Dennett puts it. It did away with the need for God.
Accepting evolution means there was no Adam and Eve, and Genesis becomes allegorical. Also they have the problem of deciding at what point God "inserted" souls into homo sapiens. Did Neanderthals also have souls? How about Homo Erectus? And what was God doing for 13.7 billion years before He sent Jesus down to save us?
The YEC view is undoubtedly more in line with Bible, but completely at variance with the reality! The RCC has taken the expedient view of accepting reality, and then grafting their theology onto it.
