Genesis 17: 8-11 'And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession... 'And as for thee, thou shalt keep My covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout their generations'... ×™And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt Me and you.

Note: no mention of STD's! Yet it took all of 1 response to highjack this thread, either by unwitting atheists or by religious apologists who, having being presented with the absurdities of their advocating for the above tribal ritual, rather than make a reasonable case for their beliefs, instead turn to completely alternative reasons for the practice; presumably in the hopes of either giving credence to their beliefs that way, or simply deflecting from their embarrassing position.

So sure, there is no sane reason behind cutting a childs' foreskin purely as part of a land-deal, but as it so happens there may be some medical benefit to it; so our religious position on real-estate management is justified??

Let the religious institutes come out and openly declare that they encourage circumcision purely for health and medical reasons. Then we can engage in a reasonable investigation and/or debate on the medical scientific justification for the practice.

Until then, we are left with the fact that religions make very serious decisions on the treatment of children based NOT ON REASONED AND EVIDENCED HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS, but solely on the basis of an irrational superstition. And if they're willing to promote cutting children based on superstitions, to what depths of depravity are they not willing to stoop?
