← Suffering

My mother is in the end stage of AML (lukemia). We are facing this issue right now. I am grateful that she does not appear to be suffering too much. My parents are religious and an orthodox rabbi has been consulted. So far, I don't think the rabbi's influence has resulted in any different type of treatment than if he had not been consulted.

We clearly want our mother to have a good quality of life for whatever time she has left. We have been told that even under the teachings of Judaism, we don't have to take "heroic" measures. We can do whatever is necessary to make her comfortable without extending suffering.

Anyway, this is a sensitive issue, to say the least, because one is dealing with an extreme situation which puts people under great emotional strain. There are no easy answers and I hope others are spared what I and my family are going through.
