This is a talk given by Paula Kirby at this year's AAI Conference in Copenhagen.
Moderator's Warning. Paula begins her talk with a long, unannounced quotation from the Christian Institute. Don't be put off!

Unholy politics
Across the developed world there is a clamour from the religious for greater influence over public policy relating to education, abortion, medical research, equalities legislation and much more; and the influence they wish to wield invariably flies in the teeth of the huge social progress that has been made in all of these areas.
This talk will explore the beliefs underpinning the avowed political goals of the religious and will argue that they must be opposed by all who strive for a genuinely enlightened, compassionate and decent society.
