It's due to be streamed at 8.30 CST which by my calculations is 14.30 GMT, for those in the UK.

Which one is Dembski? Is he the mathematician who has a big beef with evolutionary theory?

Is this actually working - been listening for 12 mins and so far some iffy piano and two anonymous guys talking for a few secs/

Hmm, Hitchens isn't a trained scientist, although he is a more informed than average layman, so sometimes he fails to call apologists like D'souza on their relentlessly shameless bullshit, lies and distortions about science. If the focus of the discussion is narrowed to the historical legacy, social-political effects and ethics and philosophy of religion he'll surely wipe the floor with this Dembski character.

It doesn't seem to have started yet, at least all I am getting is a series of exhortations & threats of a loving religious nature.

How do they not manage to see that "one day every knee will bow" is rather sinister and unwelcoming thought.

I went to the link at the start time. Waited there until now. Nothing happened, and even the piano music stopped.

So really, this is about training the young not to lose their faith when they leave religious schools or colleges, by letting them know in advance what normal people will tell them in attempts to expose their indoctrination?

Demski has just delivered a diatribe against Hitchens and Darwin - how is this proof that god is good?

He is so boring and rambling. Apart from jumping from one subject to another randomly all he is saying is I published this I published that.

Specified complexity - really again? and god of the gaps. Nothing new then.

He thinks Hitch needs Darwin to be an atheist? He is in for a surpise when Hitch gets up again.

Another theist who can talk for hours without saying a word

very nearly doezed off a second ago...

I doubt it will happen but i'd like to see a poll of the audience reaction at the end

Dembski wouldn't know a logical argument if he fell over one. Theists just can't tell the difference between a baseless assertion and evidence.

I admire Hitch for bothering to debate such a low-brow pseudo academic. The up side is that the audience is getting to hear a bit of plain truth for once in their lives.

pasadena beggar's Avatar Comment 26 by pasadena beggar

My thought is that Dembski is there to put up his defense, and to attempt to go on the offense. But Hitchens is there to do something different, I'm observing. I think Hitchens has more or less blown off Dembski, and is doing his best to influence the young people in the audience. He's trying to get them to see reason. It's almost as though Dembski isn't even in the room.

I can't bring myself to believe that people like this guy ACTUALLY believe. They know how fallacious their arguments are and go extremely out of their way to twist the truth. They quote out of context, refuse to respond to criticisms, instead moving onto a new topic, and sometimes just tell blatant lies. They can't possibly believe; what's their agenda? What's in it for them?
