Cathedral for the Salvation of Romanian People

The Romanian government is jointly financing a cathedral costing up to 1 billion Euros, called the Cathedral for the Salvation of Romanian People. What makes it even worse is Romania is hurting badly, financially. They are closing two schools a day. They can't afford this monument to ego and superstition.
I am not familiar with the constitution of Romania. They may be religiously unified and don't subscribe to the notion of separation of church and state.
