Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City, banned clergy from the 9/11 anniversary ceremonies. The Christians are out with torches in fury. You can read about it with Google News.
Many newspapers have blogs where the Christians are fulminating. If you have at itch for a no-gloves dust up with the troglodytes, have at it there. Here is my opening post defending Bloomberg.
When clergy were invited to speak at the Dalai Lama's visit to Vancouver, clergy abused the privilege by droning on and on with commercials for their particular sects. Ditto for funerals of my atheist friends and relatives where clergy were invited. These people imagine they have an exclusive handle on truth and will peddle it relentlessly like Amway salesman at even the most inappropriate opportunities. Bloomberg was right to keep the focus off religion and on the people who were involved in 9/11. The clergy have plenty of opportunity to speak and pitch elsewhere. They have no special place in 9/11 ceremonies, unless of course they were directly involved.
