Teaching science in public schools without stepping around religion

As an AP physics teacher in a public school, how can I educate students about using reason, evidence, and wonder about the natural world to govern their lives and make decisions without stepping on the toes of their religious families? I wish I could just tell them how the concept of God is practically useless and life is better without it but I can not. I feel like I have trouble conveying what science is really all about without addressing this issue.
