Hmm, what a bizarre piece for the Telegraph. Obviously done to appease someone, Eric Pickles maybe, or maybe just to antagonise?!

I've also encountered Christians trying to take the moral high ground on slavery, which is also a bizarre twist on history. Helpfully for local debate the Bishop of Exeter was compensated when slavery was abolished because he owned so many.

If the results are better than modelling predicted, will this persuade the UK authorities to reconsider I wonder.

Comment 7 by Scoundrel :

so when do we begin pumping aerosols in the air to cancel out global warming.

It has already been proposes as a mitigation strategy. It is horridly impractical if done with aircraft requiring vast volumes of aerosols to be sprayed at high altitude to avoid the other problems with the chemical involved at lower levels. It also doesn't resolve other issues with CO2 levels, such as acidification.

We could deliberately induce a nuclear winter if we think brutal geo-engineering solutions are called for.

What is it about sunspots and predictions? I think humans are very bad at handling erratic numbers.

For what its worth sunspots are increasing pretty much in line with NASA's forecasts, the sky is not falling down.

The paper discusses pretty esoteric statistics of climatology, but this is somehow reduced to a simple statement that we might (but probably won't) get colder winters if the sun is less active (which it might not be).

My local primary school has a book that advocates the killing of sodomites, it is state funded, but run by some break away Christian sect founded by an extreme anti-Semite - what is his name - ah "Martin Luther".

I trust that Gove will ensure an even handed approach to books which advocate intolerance and nonsensical ideas.
