Here's what my Saudi friend had to say about the article:

well my friend i read it half and it seems like he completely made him self eligible for execution. i know you would think what kind of religion followers would kill a person for saying bad about God? well i would say how would you react if some one say bad things about your mom or sister? this guy completely brought this on him self and he is no minor or insane. and we talking about God we don't mess around in subject of religion that is why islam as religion is pure and still people can give their life in the way of God with out seeing God. You would not get that bro but some day if you get it then you wish you could get back in time and try to save your loved ones for the hell fire. see revelation/message from God always got hijacked by people where it get revealed and now true message of islam is being hijacked by hypocrites they give bad name to religion. any ways bro i hope one day you'll understand all this.

Safe to say, he's no longer my friend.

Children should also be given compulsory religious studies in which they're taught about all the major religions.

Go to: Synthetic life: a breakthrough in genomics

To ask whether the genome consistutes "artificial life or merely genetic information injected into existing life" seems to be as pointless as arguing whether or not the chicken came before the egg. Once you have a cell with a genome, its offspring will be built based on genetic information alone, so if the root cell isn't artificial, its firstborn definitely is.

I cant believe that something so huge has been met with such shocking indifference by the community at large. It has been effectively reported with no real explanation of what’s been developed or how. The media has taken so little interest in it I am amazed it even got past the "woman gives birth to sextuplets" story.

Its crazy! How can big brother get weeks and weeks of coverage yet the team who has conducted such great work still get no attention. Our entire civilisation should be in a state of celebration!

I know exactly how you feel. I tried to explain the potential of this research to my friends and relatives, but I don't think I provoked more than the occasional "that's cool" comment. How can this not be relevant to their lives?? The world will look vastly different in a decade, and they'll barely even notice the transition.
