This is perfect timing. I teach 9-11 year olds and am planning a day of activities to celebrate Darwin Day on Thursday.
In the forum on natural selection, I have asked people for ideas too. Please contribute if you can.
My class have asked if they can come dressed as different living things. One boy is keen to come as a monkey, another will dress as a fish and one girl is particularly intent on arriving as a potato.
Of course, an edited selection from this series will now take pride of place on my large interactive whiteboard. So many, many thanks for making it available.

There is definitely insufficient emphasis placed on natural selection in the UK educational system. However, there are ways around this. The existing requirements can be taught, I believe, more efficiently and more coherently by placing certain key ideas at the core, and one of these is natural selection. I am presently in the process of developing a new curriculum in which evolution will be taught systematically to children from the age of 8 or 9. At present, I teach it to 10 and 11 year olds. The core ideas for science teaching include, I believe, (1) structure and function, (2) Life Cycles, (3) Adaptation, (4) Innate and Learned Behaviour, (5) Natural Selection (6) Mass (7)Force (8) Work (9) Energy (10) POwer (11) Atom (12) Molecule (13) electron

I sit in suspense - in eager anticipation of Dawkins' views after he has had a chance to run through the data with Venter. What are his conclusions about the viral cross contamination for molecular taxonomy?

Will Richard tell us here first?

Did anyone indulge in a phylum feast to mark the day?
