Go to: The God issue: New science of religion

What arrogance- "reset the terms of the debate"!! Who are these people? Of course there will always be religion because the majority of humanity likes to be led. Arrogant self assured snake-oil salesmen have always attracted a following. Especially if they tell you they have the answers. And religion is the best tool to accomplish this end. A recent faith healer from Nigeria has packed our local stadium with the terminally ill and those wanting miracles and the result has been one death (no miracle, sorry the lines were down) at the stadium and more people hospitalised. The missionaries had it right- get them on their knees and when their eyes are closed we can steal the country (that from a freedom fighter friend of mine)

Go to: Romney Defends Conservative Values, Says Obama Has ‘Secular Agenda’

From the southern tip of Africa- it is refreshing to see how people struggle and debate in a democracy. African methods tend to be more terminal. As a very new democracy our discourse is more on housing, water, food etc. I can only hope that the American electorate do not put a "nutjob" in the Whitehouse and one who has an apocalyptic vision to boot. Faith in the process is difficult as I read of the negative adverts etc that are being aired. Obama appears a paragon of virtue next to his opponents!

Go to: Malaria vaccine could save millions of children's lives

As someone who has had repeated attacks of malaria, this is huge. Losing a child to this scourge must be awful. I would not wish it on anyone and therefore welcome this hopeful news.

You need to decide if you want confrontation at home or not. I agree with those that recommend not rocking the boat at home, go to mass, take communion (if you don't believe, it is just a bit of bread and wine) and love your parents. Also be prepared for all hell to break loose when you do go off and join the navy (as I did). My folks were just happy that I visited them when on leave, and overlooked my drift off the path. Educate, educate, educate yourself. Not to take them on- you eventually reach the point where you realise that you are the one that needs to help them. Confrontation requires immense energy to sustain especially if you are dependant on them. Use that energy to better yourself. Good luck.

@Peter Grant. In Cape Town. We have seen them up the West Coast road all the way to Namibia. They may be wonderful etc but their impact on the environment in massive. Local authorities are culling the alien black house crow but not the pied crow. Be careful what you wish for. We have regular aerial combat displays over our house as the crows target the nests of other locals.
