Clever article. If you're offended, it means that your sense of humour is yet to evolve.

Who's offended? And where's the humour?

Go to: Is Richard Dawkins an ape?

Interesting logic. Cross out humans from the "family" of apes, and then claim that humans are not apes because "apes" can't do some of the things humans do.

Might as well say women are not humans because humans have penises (which is obviously silly, but there you go).

Genocide is morally depraved.

Incoherent. Morals are illusory in a world of selfish genes. The only 'moral' is personal gene propagation.

Comment 169 by fairytalegod

Unless you're joking, what's the point in participating in debates about morals, when it's all relative and illusory?

That's the irony: collections of selfish genes bloviating about how 'evil' their opponents are. Genes are molecules, and DNA molecules have no more to say about morality than lipid molecules. How can one believe in selfish genes and evil simultaneously? To the selfish gene, evil is illusory--except when employed as an accusation. Perhaps it should be called the 'hypocritical gene'.

Irrespective of whether morals are illusory or not, the effects of moral concepts are very real. Morality (even if illusory) has both direct and indirect effects on what you call "collections of selfish genes", which makes any debate on morality being real or illusory, irrelevant.

God is not real, but belief in god has effects on reality. The same applies to morals. The absence of morals (or the holding of harmful morals) has direct effect on real people (or selfish genes, if you wish).

In that sense, morals are real.
