  • It is likely that the words of Jesus as shown in the gospels are a good reflection of his teaching
  • Why this Jesus guy didn't write his teachings down? He was all-knowing infinitely intelligent being who designed this world after all. A few pages personally written by God himself, wouldn't it be great? It'd be written with perfect consistency and we all for countless centuries would be amazed by genius of its author. But there's nothing, not even one letter, only some writings in the sand.

Go to: Alvin Plantinga and Intelligent Design

Alvin Plantinga is not a philosopher. He's a theologian and apologist using philosophical tools like many his predecessors in history to defend theism. He goes where faith not reason leads him.

Mr. Plantinga readily admits that he has no proof that God exists. But he also thinks that doesn’t matter. Belief in God, he argues, is what philosophers call a basic belief: It is no more in need of proof than the belief that the past exists, or that other people have minds, or that one plus one equals two.

This is a difference between theologian and philosopher. The latter if he is theist will try to find evidence that his position is true. Theologian will simply assume that it's a basic fact or belief and continues basing on that very premise he should prove.

I don't understand why this program is so controversial. Hawking didn't say anything new about God in context of science. Two centuries ago Laplace said the very same thing to Napoleon - "I had no need of that hypothesis."

I'm watching it right now and I think the poor guy was tasered on that ship.
