You will be missed very much by all the people in the world who value reason and truth, Mr Hitchens!

Why can't they organise something like that in Germany? I'm a graduate student, dammit, I can't afford to fly to Australia...

Awesome! We need them in Germany, particularly now that Ratzinger is coming. Bet he'd love the one with Hitler.

Go to: Germany: Politicians plan boycott of pope’s Bundestag speech

At the moment, there are billboards going up in German towns with Ratzinger leering down evilly on unsuspecting passersby, inviting them to come and see him. They make me want to puke every single time I come across them. I shudder to think how the German media and politicians are probably going to bow down before that creepy old bigot during his visit. I used to vote for the CDU (in the past, their politics actually sometimes made sense), but I won't do it again: I hate the way their top people cling to their outdated religious beliefs and pander to the church

Go to: [UPDATE] Steve Jones "risks political storm over Muslim 'inbreeding'."

That's an interesting article. There was a similar controversy in Germany when Thilo Sarrazin's controversial book "Deutschland schafft sich ab" ("Germany abolishes itself") came out. He mentioned the problem of inbreeding, but the subject unfortunately got sidelined because everyone was so incensed about his view on Muslim immigrants (some of whom really cause a lot of problems here)...
