"A beautiful mind" I think is the name of the John Nash story from a few years ago. Though Nash was a social scientist (economist), I think it still counts. The movie is very positive in spirit and I think the biggest science related hit in recent years. Then there is another one also by Russell Crowe where he plays a researcher in a tobacco company and tries to expose that he has found tobacco to be dangerous. It's also a big production where a scientist is a hero.

You can see the daily show episodes online outside the US. Unfortunately the archives only cover the past 3 weeks. #8 has the link.

What has gone wrong with American culture? Can't you try to cure cancer anymore without a political party logo on your lab kit?

@4 Corpotarions need artificial personhood so they can make contracts. They have the obligation to produce profits for the owners and abide by the law. If you want to give them more obligations, change the law. As it stands it's immoral and illegal for a CEO to squander the shareholders' money on random welfare projects. He is hired to further the shareholders' interest and can't just neglect that. And if you want corporate tax on gross earning, expect employment contracts that have your wage dependant on profits and paid about once per year.

@6 Without corporate tax, there is no tax paid for dividents to people living abroad. In an international framework where other countries have double taxation of capital income, it's best for any single country to have it too.

The article is total crank economics as #2 points out.
