This is what the Mayans meant by the end of the world, not the physical end of our planet but the end to science, rationalisation and reason! Welcome to the 21st century please leave all the discoveries of the 19th and 20th century behind you, you'll not be needing them any more, they were only theories anyway and not very good ones at that...

Reminds me of that joke:

The religious cowboy lost his favourite Bible while he was mending fences out on the range. Three weeks later a cow walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn't believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the cow's mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, "It's a miracle!" "Not really" said the cow "Your name is written inside the cover".

I go to church and there they say, at the pulpit, things like: "Today, there's a guy here, who's unemployed. But god said that, tomorrow, you're going to find a job, the job you want".

How many other unemployed men are in the church? It's no different then standing up and saying "is there a John here today?" the chances are good that there is a John as it's a common name much the same that there would be a unemployed man in attendance looking for work.

As for the cancer story, my sister in law found a lump and was told it was definitely breast cancer. She saw a specialist, turned out it was a non cancerous tumour. At no point in between finding the lump to having the tumour removed did anyone pray. Miracle - no, misdiagnosis - yes, simple.

If you're told you have cancer but had not gone to church, you then re-take the tests and you didn't have cancer after all would that be a miracle or possible misdiagnosis?

You have to read Richard's books in its original English to truly understand what is written within...

Comment 3 by mtgilbert :

I always want to ask "what caused god," but then I worry that it will result in the continuation of a conversation which is already descending the stupid scale.

The answer is always the equally stupid "God has no cause"
