I had the displeasure of reading the comments section. "Lordgamble" made some truly hilarious comments.

I think cases such as these are symptomatic of a much larger problem, the need for contrarian individualism, which is arrived at by the individual beginning to imagine themselves as becoming highly critical.

They begin with a will to believe whatever goes against conventional wisdom, then gather "evidence" which they use to justify the belief, showing off a well developed confirmation bias, and usually concluding with a conspiracy theory of sorts.

This generalization can be applied (successfully) to most nutter theories, anti-vacc, alternative medicine, religion, truthers etc.

They simply neglect to evaluate both sides of an argument with such vigour. It's obvious to most if not all people on this forum, but the "baloney detection kit" way of thinking has never actually occured to most people, in my opinion. (Vid can be seen in the RDF productions section).

Beautifully written, thanks for sharing.

"Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot"

I like this part most of all. Sometimes I like to imagine our universe as being like a neuron in a giant brain. This train of thought doesn't usually last very long.

"There is nothing in the vision laid out by Pakistan’s founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, that creates the space for such acts of hatred."

Yeah, sure, whatever, but the vision laid out by the "Real Mohammad" does.
