Here's Peter Mullens take on Richard Dawkins being the subject of Beautiful Minds. Not only are his arguments asinine but the article was actually written BEFORE the screening of the program which of course means that he hadn't even seen it at the time of writing.

Furthermore Mullen has totally overlooked the main reason why Dawkins was the subject of the program in the first place which is of course his achievements as an evolutionary biologist and instead chosen to write an idiotic rant against The God Delsusion.

If true equality is to exist within the workplace then employers must either do away with this special privalege or allow emploees to wear whatever they want, whether it's religious or not, within reason of course. I don't think you should be allowed to work dressed as a chicken.

Ah, but if true equality is to exist, then dressing as a chicken must be accepted...as should being nude.

Thus opens the can of worms on that slippery slope of sensibilities and the introduction of SC's grey uniform for all.

I thought someone might point that out and you're quite right. It's the old argument, where does one draw the line? At what point does diverting from ones dress code become so outrageous that it shouldn't be allowed. This is where reason comes into play but reason is of course elastic. Perhaps a better solution would be for employers to draw up a list of extra attire which is allowed along side uniform which contains both religious and non religious items. As I said before if Ali is allowed to wear her headscarf then Alf should be allowed to wear his medals. What's more, Alfs medals actually represent something real.

Religion is the only game in town where a free pass is given for people to deviate from their uniform dress code. Why should it have this special right? Priveleging those who want to wear extra attire for religious reasons is unfair on those who are not allowed to deviate from their uniform for other reasons. A person may want to deviate from their uniform due to personal preference or loyalty to a cause and they may be just as passionate about their particular reasons than a religious person is about theirs, maybe even moreso. If Shaheen is allowed to wear a headscarf then Jane should be allowed to wear a flower in her hair. If Omar is allowed to sport a beard then an Bob should be allowed to have a goatee. If Mr Singh is allowed to wear a turban then Mr Smith should be allowed to wear a bowler hat. If Sarah is granted the right to wear a crucifix then Alf should have the right to wear his war medals. If true equality is to exist within the workplace then employers must either do away with this special privalege or allow employees to wear whatever they want, whether it's religious or not. This of course should be within reason. I don't think you should be allowed to work dressed as a chicken.
