Looks like waterboarding is as good for driving out demons as it is for producing useful counter-terrorism intelligence....

Go to: Charges initiated against Pope for crimes against humanity

These two German lawyers have done what anyone can do - bring evidence of a crime to the attention of an agency with authority to investigate and prosecute the alleged crimes. Here, nothing "official" happens unless and until the ICC prosecuting authority decides to pursue the issue. Unfortunately, I suspect there's little, if any, chance that it will do so.

In theory, charges can be brought before the ICC only when the law enforcement and judicial authorities of the country in which the alleged lawbreaker lives cannot or will not take effective action. At least that barrier to ICC jurisdiction should pose little problem. I doubt there's any effective procedure under Roman Catholic canon law for bringing charges against or deposing a Pope for misconduct in office.

Go to: Jacobs: Birds Are Dying Because of DADT Repeal

Strange that God would cause the blackbirds to fall over Arkansas -- of all places -- to show his displeasure over acceptance of homosexuality instead of San Francisco, Miami Beach, Provincetown, or the like. Is God that geographically challenged? Or does he save the big stuff like earthquakes (San Francisco) and hurricanes (Miami Beach & Provincetown) for the centers of teh Gay Menace and just cast lesser "signs and wonders" to God-fearin' places like Arkansas?

Go to: Pakistani doctor held under blasphemy law

I read that the doctor charged with "blasphemy" is a member of the Ismaili sect of Islam, which "mainstream" Sunni Islam considers "heretical," nearly the equivalent of apostasy. This seems to fit well with the pattern of blasphemy laws used to oppress disfavored minorities.
